SAN PIO VILLAGE

Out of the four programs we currently have in Cebu, the biggest project at the time of this writing, is definitely the building of San Pio Village at Dumlog, Talisay City. This exciting new program will involve the relocation of 360 families, currently living in a hand-to-mouth existence on rubbish tips and shanty areas, to a purpose-built village named San Pio Village. Through community development and educational initiatives the program aims to pave a better way of life for these families who are being trained to support each other in achieving a viable future for themselves and especially for their children.

Forty homes are almost ready for occupation. Roads and drainage for the first 240 homes will be completed by the end of March and the first families are scheduled to move-in by early May 2008.

BCA was fortunate in soliciting the services of Pagtambayayong, a foundation for mutual aid and also a non-stock, non-profit organization. Their involvement in the project is greatly appreciated. All those who have visited the village are all in praises for the quality of their workman ship. BCA contributed AUD$200,000.00  to Stage 1 of the Infrastructure.

BETHLEHEM DAY CARE CENTRE

The programs include the Bethlehem Day Care Centre which opened in January 2004. As a result of the Day Care Centre's services and activities, many positive outcomes have resulted in a lot of people's lives. Read more about the Day Care Centre in "About Us".

UNIVERSITY OF THE VISAYAS CHOIR

This celebrated and very talented choir has already visited Australia twice under the sponsorship of BCA. Both tours were extremely successful. These visits touched many hearts not only because of their beautiful voices but also by their grace and spiritual presence.

As well as raising BCA's awareness in regional NSW, the choir's reputation in the Philippines has been lifted to a much higher level. Since their last Australian tour, they participated for the very first time in the prestigious Busan Choral Festival competition held in South Korea on October 31 - November 03, 2007. Pitted against 39 very experienced professional choral groups from Asia, America and Europe, the UV Choir won silver for the ethnic song and bronze for the mixed classical song categories. This group is comprised of young university students with ages ranging from 15 to 22 years old. The victory has certainly developed their confidence and self-esteem dramatically.

This coming July 2008, they will again visit Australia to take part in the WYD08 (World Youth Day 2008). The theme of their tour will be "Bringing WYD to regional NSW".

Copies of their 2 CDs are still available from the BCA office; they are perfect gifts for all occasions. A third CD will soon be released for their 2008 tour.

  Carmelite Sisters - Cebu

The Carmelite Sisters project is in the village of Manghupe high in the hills of the town of Canasujan in the city of Car-Car. BCA has continued to support a teacher whose classes have grown from 70 to over 200 school children. During the past year, BCA's achievements includes the following:

  • Facilitated the supply of electricity to the village
  • Installation of a water tank
  • Provided training for livelihood projects such as goat raising and chicken farming
